The role of Further Education
The Diploma Development Partnership (DDP) expects Further Education
colleges to be central to the Gateway 3 application process and the
subsequent delivery of the Diploma in Travel and Tourism, building on
their experience and expertise in delivering existing related
qualifications, staff expertise with industry-related experience,
resources and employer engagement. There are strong and established
traditions of delivery through former CoVE networks for both Travel and
Tourism and Aviation.
- Existing links and relationships
with schools - such as the Increased Flexibility Programme, should be
maintained so that the marketing for all the new Diplomas can be sustained
and improved
- Colleges - planning to offer
the new Diploma in Travel and Tourism could play a central role in promoting
the Diploma. This could be done, for instance, by running 'taster'
events as learners make decisions about their futures. They will also have strong
links and partnerships with Higher Education institutions, which are
crucial in terms of learner progression by identifying appropriate learning
pathways onto suitable courses
- Employer engagement - is crucial
in terms of the applied nature of Diplomas, and in developing and sustaining
learner interest and enthusiasm. Colleges have a vital role to play
in galvanising employer engagement, building on existing contacts and
networks to support consortia
