The Gateway process will determine which consortia will teach the Diploma in Travel and Tourism. Anyone wishing to apply to deliver the Diploma in Travel and Tourism must do so through the Gateway process.
Gateway 4 Update
There have been slight changes in the application process for Gateway 4. Local Authorities will be asked to provide some management information on their plans for the Diploma entitlement. In order to do this Local Authorities will need to access the online MI system at http:gateway.camb-ed.com which will be live from early September. Guidance on this application process can be found on the DCSF website http://dcsf.gov.uk/14-19 under Local Authorities, Partnership Gateway.
Deadlines for submissions for Gateway 4 is 5 p.m. on the 25 November 2009. Consortia will be expected to complete a line specific application and guidance on this will be available in September.
You can now access the consortium guidance and templates at www.dcsf.gov.uk/14-19/G4consortiaguidance and Local Authority guidance and templates at www.dcsf.gov.uk/14-19/G4LAGuidance. The MI site for consortia and Local Authorities is available at http://gateway.camb-ed.com/apply.
If your consortium applied in a previous Gateway, it will have an existing MI account. Please use this account for your Gateway 4 application, do not create a new one.

Do we need links with employers covering all industries within the scope of the Diploma?
Links and related knowledge are likely to be more established and stronger in some of the industries within the scope of the Diploma than others. However, consortia should ensure that they have a strategy in place to engage with as broad a range of related industries as possible and should have plans to identify and address gaps.
Do we have to have any specialised facilities such as travel shop, aircraft cabin, ground operation facilities?
Whilst having any specialised facilities within the consortium would be an advantage, it is not essential. However, we would expect see plans of how you would provide access to relevant work related experiences. This could include simulated work environments or use of employer facilities.
Do we have to have access to industry-based technology such as Global Distribution Systems?
Technology in the context of the Diploma covers technology in its broadest sense. The knowledge and understanding of key software should include Global Distribution Systems, viewdata and travel booking systems. This topic does not require a specific system to be taught.
How can we get information from individual businesses which may be commercially sensitive?
It is down to each individual business to decide the amount and nature of commercial information they are prepared to share. It will also depend on the level and nature of your relationship with your employer partners. Global, national and regional sector statistics and information is publicly available.
