Superbreak Case Study
I am 28 years old and left school with 4 A levels to study a degree in travel and tourism management at the University of Northumbria in Newcastle.
For my placement year I was given the opportunity to work at Superbreak-Mini-Holidays Ltd in York, a leading short break operator. This mainly involved work as a full-time Reservations Advisor within their call centre, dealing with incoming booking enquiries from both travel agents and consumers. However, as with the offer graduate placements, I got the chance to work for brief spells in other departments such as sales, marketing services, operations and customer relations.
Whilst at Superbreak I also happened to meet, and start going out with Chris, who also worked within the reservations department. After completing my BA (hons) degree in travel and tourism management I returned to work within the reservations department and was very quickly promoted to a team leader. I was later promoted to work as print and brochure production executive within the marketing services department.
During that time I married Chris, who has now progressed to become Superbreak’s sales office manager. We have one son together with a second child on the way!
I have found my time within the travel and tourism industry to be both interesting and rewarding. I fully endorse the Diploma in Travel and Tourism and would have loved to have taken the qualification prior to going to university. I think because the Diploma in Travel and Tourism combines theory and practice, it will equip students with skills, knowledge and experience they will need for success at college, university and at work.
