The Diploma makes its debut at the World Travel Market
Over 50,000 industry professionals attending the 30th World Travel Market in London between 9-12 November 2009 and the Diploma was represented too!
Thursday, 12 November saw the inaugural “Future You” conference for students of travel and tourism attending WTM. Organised by the Institute of Travel and Tourism and The Tourism Society, the students and their lecturers heard from an impressive line of industry speakers regarding the range of job opportunities and careers in the sector.
Sally Mawson, qualification manager for GoSkills and member of the Diploma team, gave a great insight into the many types of careers in the passenger transport industries, from train drivers to transport planners. Diploma employer supporters, London City Airport and Ripleys Believe it or Not! gave fascinating insights into what it is like working in their industries as well as the skills and attributes that they look for in their staff.
In addition, those attending heard about volunteering with Projects Abroad and the skills that the volunteers develop through working in other countries, which are highly valued by travel and tourism employers. To top it all off, New Frontiers recruitment agency gave an amusing talk on what not to put in your c.v. and how to sell yourself to prospective employers.
The event was a huge success with over 350 students taking part.
