Higher education news
The summer break already feels like a distant memory. Most of us are making sure that we have all of our lectures and seminars ready for the coming semester, printing off hundreds of unit guides and attending endless team meetings.
This year has seen another record increase in the number of students who have achieved GCSE A-Cs and A-Levels, many of whom want to go onto study at university
The Diploma in Travel and Tourism will be taught from September 2009 and will provide learners with softer skills that employers have requested such as personal[O1] , learning and thinking skills together with subject knowledge. The Advanced Diploma (level 3) focuses on both theory and practice.
HE colleagues have highlighted the importance of learners possessing the ability to work autonomously. The Travel & Tourism Diploma will include the teaching of useful skills such as the ability to undertake research independently. Students will also have to complete the Extended Project which will provide the opportunity to challenge and stretch the learner including the requirement to produce “ A single piece of work, requiring a high degree of planning, preparation and autonomous working” ( 14-19 Education & Skills White Paper, 200 cited in An Introduction to the extended project, QCA 2008,p3).
Over the next 12 months, the Travel and Tourism Diploma HE Team will be collaboratively working with other external organisations such as SSAT, DCSF and our HE partners, colleges and schools[O2] .
