Higher Education Engagement
The summer break is finally here, and universities, schools and colleges are now calmly awaiting the start of the next academic year. The Higher Education team have been busy continually working to raise awareness and support of the Travel and Tourism Diploma amongst their colleagues.
This month, the team has attended the South London Life Long Network Diploma Conference at Kingston University, Barnet College Network Evening, University of East London-Docklands (Cyprus Campus) and sat on the panel at the Qualification Curriculum Authority Principal Learning Accreditation meetings.
The team has also secured two new statements of support for the Diploma in Travel and Tourism from Wolverhampton and Leeds Metropolitan universities as follows:
Peter Robinson, senior lecturer at Wolverhampton University:
“The combination of practical and theoretical aspects in the delivery of the Diploma develops not only the students' skills necessary for entering employment, but will also provide the student with critical thinking skills and specialist subject knowledge that will ease entry into undergraduate programmes within Higher Education. “
David Hind, head of tourism at Leeds Metropolitan University:
“Leeds Metropolitan University will welcome applications for its tourism courses from students who successfully achieve the Advanced Diploma in Travel and Tourism (level 3). The Diploma will effectively prepare students for a university degree in tourism.”
These statements are encouraging especially coming from those involved in the preparation and development of the Diploma in Travel and Tourism which will be first taught in schools and colleges in September 2009. Learners, parents, teachers and Information Advice and Guidance advisors are now looking at Higher Education Institutions who actively welcome applicants with the Advanced Diploma in Travel and Tourism onto their courses.
